Last night the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA) recognized the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the University of Virginia Community Credit Union (UVA CCU) for their efforts delivering energy savings to homes and business across the state. The awards were presented at the Charlottesville City Council meeting.

City Councilwoman DeDe Smith, LEAP’s Executive Director Cynthia Adams, UVA Community Credit Union Director of Community Relations Rebecca Cardwell, and Albemarle County Supervisor Duane Snow with their Energy Pro3 awards
The awards were given through SEEA’s regional Energy Pro3 initiative – a series of convenings and awards that highlight the productivity and progress achieved through energy efficiency programs across the Southeast, showcase the results programs like LEAP have achieved to date, and demonstrate how these efforts are paving the way for sustained economic growth and prosperity in our region.
You can read the full press release that details the accomplishments of the winners and background on SEEA and Energy Pro3 or check out the Charlottesville Tomorrow story, but here is what you need to know:
There were 13 cities across the Southeast participating in SEEA’s Better Buildings consortium. Together they completed a staggering 3,566 home energy upgrades (“retrofits”) — 1,215 of which were completed here in central Virginia by LEAP contractors. That’s a whopping 34% of all the work in the Southeast that was done right here in our backyard, benefiting our local economy.
The City, County and Credit Union were invaluable partners contributing to that success, including initiatives like PowerSaver Loans, Home Energy Makeover Contests, the Energize250 campaign, Better Business Challenge and their investment of staff and resources to support energy efficiency efforts across the Central Virginia community.
The overwhelming message of the night: GO TEAM!
