“What do high power bills, stinkbugs, and mold have in common? A house that is in need of a home energy makeover. Hundreds of local homeowners have already gotten relief from these problems, and we want to let everyone know they can, too, with the PowerSaver Home Energy Makeover Contest. said Cynthia Adams, Executive Director of the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP).“We have weekly drawings, four grand prizes, and it is completely free to enter.”

“We’re proud to partner with LEAP to bring the PowerSaver Home Energy Makeover Contest to our community to highlight how homeowners can save on their energy bills.” said Alison DeTuncq, President/CEO of UVA Community Credit Union. “Rising energy costs and tight household budgets are making investments in home energy efficiency a prudent course of action for many.”

“The twist in this year’s contest is what we’re calling the ‘smackdown,’ a friendly competition among local contractors to win the right to do the home makeover work,” said Adams. “These local contractors will go head-to-head to give the winning homeowners the biggest bang for their free bucks.”

How the “smackdown” works: Once the winning homes have been selected, local LEAP Certified Contractors will compete to perform the work by presenting proposals. For each home, the company whose proposal achieves the deepest energy savings at the specified price points will win the work on the home. The winning contractors will work with the each contest winner to improve that home’s performance with energy improvements such as air sealing, duct sealing, adding insulation, and the maintenance or upgrading of heating and cooling equipment.
