Three Local Non-Profits Win $1,000 in PowerSaver Contest Nonprofit Challenge

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, Computers4Kids and WriterHouse Each Win $1,000 as Part of LEAP and UVA Community Credit Union PowerSaver Home Energy Makeover Contest Nonprofit Challenge

Charlottesville, VA– Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, Computers4Kids and WriterHouse were each awarded $1,000 as winners of the Non-Profit Challenge in the PowerSaver Home Energy Makeover Contest, sponsored by the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) and UVA Community Credit Union. Each nonprofit was grouped by budget in the following categories: more than $500,000; $100,000-$500,000; and less than $100,000. Overall, 534 of the 1,200 contest entries included non-profits in the Nonprofit Challenge category; 210 different nonprofits were entered.

Habitat, Computers4Kids and WriterHouse also won the Nonprofit Challenge in last year’s Contest.

“We are thrilled to be able to support other nonprofits in the Charlottesville region and thank all of those groups who participated in the Nonprofit Challenge,” said Cynthia Adams, LEAP’s Executive Director. “This was a great way to get more people engaged in a money- and energy-saving opportunities for their homes, and local nonprofits can advance their important work with this cash prize. It’s a win-win for our community.”

The PowerSaver Home Energy Makeover Contest closed last Friday, August 19; the 10 finalists will be announced in two weeks. In mid-September 4 winners will be selected from that groups of finalists to receive energy improvements worth $2,500 (2 winners), $5,000 and $10,000. LEAP Certified Contractors will compete in a “smackdown” to compete for the right to do the work on the winning homes.
