It’s always nice to have a reason to celebrate, and last night LEAP had a big reason and a big party thanks to a big number: 1,000.
That’s 1,000 home energy upgrades in the Charlottesville area. To put it another way, 1,000 of your central Virginia neighbors are enjoying lower energy bills, higher property values, and healthier, more comfortable homes. We reached this milestone less than three years since we got started, and we’re one of only 15 BetterBuildings grant programs nationwide to hit that mark.

The event, held at the stunning new space the Old Metropolitan Hall on Cville’s Downtown Mall, was a chance to reflect back on what LEAP’s accomplishments have meant for the local community and forecast what’s on the horizon – including a focus on healthy homes and indoor air quality (stay tuned for more details). Cynthia Adams, our Executive Director, thanked all of the partners – especially our local contractor network – who have made this feat possible. Special recognition was given to the following LEAP supporters:
Kristel Riddervold and Judy Mueller with the City of Charlottesville; George Shadman with the County of Albemarle; local energy efficiency champion Eric Gilchrist; Steve Morgan of Clean Energy Solutions; Rebecca Cardwell with UVA Community Credit Union; Greg Slater with Nest Realty and the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors; and all of the Governance Board members in attendance, including: Paxton Marshall of UVA, city council members Dave Norris and Dede Smith, Bill Prindle of ICF International, and Brandon Stites with Dominion Virginia Power.
It’s been quite a pleasure to work with them and the 1,000 homeowners who express such gratitude for transforming their home and their lives. Many of them now have yard signs (pictured above, held by Cynthia) to let their neighbors know that they are saving 20% or more on their energy bills thanks to LEAP’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. You can check some of their stories out via our testimonials and success stories.
Their words capture the myriad benefits homeowners appreciate about LEAP’s home energy upgrades – these numbers do that on a community scale:
LEAP By the Numbers (since launching in July 2010):
1000+ home energy upgrades
$6M in private investment leveraged
$550,0000 cumulative cost savings for homeowners
8 GwH of energy saved
Those are some big numbers. You, too, could be saving big with LEAP.
