2013 PowerSaver Home Makeover Announces 10 Semi-Finalist Winners
Three Winners Will Be Selected After Home Energy Assessments
Charlottesville, VA – Ten central Virginia residents are one step closer to winning a home energy efficiency makeover worth $10,000 as UVA Community Credit Union and the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) announced the semi-finalists in its 2013 PowerSaver Home Makeover Contest. The semi-finalists were among 1,100 contest entrants.
Contest semi-finalists are:
John Foster, City of Charlottesville
Kathleen Jones, Madison
Kathleen Kelly, City of Charlottesville
Thomas Mark, City of Charlottesville
Angela Richards, Lake Monticello (Fluvanna County)
Karen Rifkin, Charlottesville (Albemarle County)
Will Schnorr, Charlottesville (Albemarle County)
Bonnie Tirrell, Ruckersville (Greene County)
Tim Tolson, Crozet (Albemarle County)
Judith Townsend, Ruckersville (Greene County)
“Just by entering the Contest, 1,100 of our neighbors have taken an important first step on the path to lower energy bills, higher property values and healthier, more comfortable homes,” said Cynthia Adams, Executive Director of the LEAP and co-sponsor of the PowerSaver Home Makeover Contest. “You don’t have to win this Contest to win big with energy efficiency.”
As semi-finalists, each of these entrants has won a professional Home Energy Assessment valued at approximately $500. Based on the results of those assessments – to be completed in the next two weeks — they’ll have the chance to win a grand prize $10,000 makeover or one of two $5,000 home energy efficiency makeovers.
“We are thrilled to see the increased interest in the PowerSaver Home Makeover Contest from area homeowners,” said Alison DeTuncq, CEO of UVA Community Credit Union. “By working with LEAP and local contractors, we are able to make a difference within our community. These changes will benefit generations for many years and helps propel the area as an innovative, progressive leader in energy efficiency.”
Contest winners were selected based on potential energy savings demonstrated by a brief home energy self-assessment that all entrants were required to complete. (The online self-assessment is a simple and free tool that is available to all local residents year-round at leap.energysavvy.com.) Winners of the PowerSaver Home Makeover Contest will be announced the week of June 24; additional details are available at www.PowerSaverMakeover.org. Prizes include one entrant winning a $10,000 PowerSaver Home Makeover and two entrants winning a $5,000 PowerSaver Home Makeover.
