News: Pitch Night selects winner in Energize!Charlottesville competition

Charlottesville residents soon will be able to see their neighborhoods’ average energy usage on utility poles in the area.

A project by Matthew Slaats was chosen by community members for funding on Thursday night at Milli Joe Cafe for the Energize!Charlottesville Arts Pitch Night.

Seven artists and artist groups were selected to pitch their projects. Four judges and a popular vote from the audience then decided the winner of $5,000 for commission of their project.

“We’re going to take data about energy use in neighborhoods and then put it onto electrical poles so that neighborhoods can actually see their energy usage and understand it as a group, not just as an individual,” Slaats said.
