LEAP’s Better Basics Program Arrives in Time for Spring Home Projects,
Expires May 31st
Charlottesville, VA – Central Virginia homeowners have until May 31 to take advantage of $400 in cash rebates for upgrades to their homes’ insulation and heating and cooling (HVAC) systems as part of LEAP’s new Better Basics Program. The rebate – which covers 50% of the job cost up to $400 – is being offered as part of the Home Energy Score pilot being conducted with the Department of Energy.
More information on the Better Basics Program, including a list of LEAP Certified Contractors who are eligible to offer this rebate, is available online at www.leap-va.org/betterbasics.
“If you own a home, spring is the season for home improvements and this year you can take advantage of cash rebates from LEAP,” said Cynthia Adams, Executive Director of the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP). “We’re offering the $400 Better Basics Rebate to help homeowners get the right work done on their homes this spring and save energy and money for seasons to come.”
To quality for the Better Basics Rebate, the work must be completed as one of these two packages:
• Insulation: Requires air sealing and duct sealing if ducts are in attic space being insulated.
• Heating and Cooling Upgrade: Requires duct sealing and duct insulation if ducts are located in unconditioned space.
This rebate is available for a limited time only: a LEAP Certified Contractor must complete the work by May 31, 2011 to qualify. One rebate per home. To qualify for the Better Basics Rebates, a LEAP Certified Contractor will run the project through a simple energy model to make sure it meets the 15% efficiency improvement threshold required by the Better Basics program. All homeowners will receive a $75 rebate on a Home Energy Score conducted by a Building Performance Institute-certified building analyst when the work is complete. Home Energy Scores average $100.
Homeowners can also access the Green $ense financing program that LEAP offers in partnership with UVA Community Credit Union.
