Their Story

When Christian Dahlhausen entered the 2011 Home Energy Makeover Contest that LEAP sponsored with UVA Community Credit Union, he didn’t win right way — but a few years later he and his family are clearly winners. Dahlhausen was one of 10 finalists in the Contest, and as such he received a free home energy assessment. A few months later they followed up with many of the recommendations they received. The projected energy savings at the time was 30%, but a mid-2014 review — as the Dahlausens considered added solar to their roof with the Solarize Charlottesville program — revealed a whopping 45% energy savings! Now that’s what we call winning.

“Working with LEAP was a pleasure and we implemented great energy improvements throughout our 1950s house. They helped us navigate the resources and improvements we wanted that made the most energy-sense based on the home energy audit.  We thoroughly enjoy the increased comfort in our house as a direct result of the measures we took. We also loved the support and comprehensiveness of the Energy Star program and the great tax benefits it provided. We would definitely consider doing it again. ” — Christian Dahlhausen
