Solarize Charlottesville returns June 20-August 20

Momentum for solar surging as prices keep dropping

www.solarizecville.org

After two successful campaigns in 2014 and 2015 and with momentum for solar power gaining across Virginia, Solarize Charlottesville returns for two months this summer to give area homeowners — and businesses and nonprofits — a chance to soak up the sun and the savings. Anyone can visit www.solarizecville.org to sign up for free and with no commitment and get a free solar site assessment and learn more about options for solar power.

More than 125 Charlottesville area residents installed solar installations through Solarize 2014-2015, or 777 kW, and valued at more than $1.6M. The popularity of Solarize Charlottesville stems from the convenience of a streamlined process and free solar site assessments and the affordability of bulk purchasing discounts. The program is run by the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) in partnership with the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and UVA Community Credit Union, working with Sigora Solar as the local installer.

LEAP has also executed successful Solarize programs in Alexandria, Dumfries, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fredericksburg, Herndon, Leesburg/Loudoun, Nelson County, and the 9-County territory served by the Piedmont Environmental Council.

Recent headlines such as “Solar power is contagious,” “New study tallies the environmental and public health benefits of solar power,” and “Pricing for solar systems in the US dropped 17% in 2015” underscore the surging popularity of Solarize programs.

Solar is cheaper than ever: Prices dropped 17% in 2015, and we offer bulk pricing discounts and affordable financing. Prices during Solarize expected to be discounted 15-18% . And LEAP will help participants access a 30% federal tax credit and navigate the Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC) market.

It’s a smart investment: Clients typically see a 6%+ annual return, and up to a $22K  home value bump.

Get your house solar-ready: Our unique energy efficiency component makes sure you first limit the amount of energy you’re using and then get a solar system to match. Discounted Home Energy Check-Ups are available to Dominion customers during Solarize.

Solarize makes it easy: Free site assessments with no commitment. Qualified local installers. Community workshops and support.

It’s All the Rage: LEAP’s Solarize NOVA and Solarize Charlottesville programs have led to 195 signed contracts worth $3.5 million and totaling 1,293 kW of electricity – or 6% of all solar installed statewide.

Head Off Rising Energy Costs: The Energy Information Administration projects a 2% annual rise in residential energy rates for the Mid-Atlantic.

Curiosity Never Hurts: Solarize NOVA offers free solar site assessments to help you figure out if solar is even right for your home or business (roof space/position, tree cover) and budget.

“We’ve seen a surge in interest across Virginia by homeowners who are motivated by these discounted prices and know that our clean energy future starts with their roof. And we hear again and again that clients appreciate the support that the Solarize program provides and the way we combine energy efficiency and solar to help homeowners make smart choices for their home and budget .” – Andrew Grigsby, LEAP Executive Director
