Before the Flood

A special event about climate change was held on May 25, 2017 at the Paramount Theater.

With support from numerous sponsors, The Local Energy Alliance Program hosted a special event about climate change where our guests:

Watched a free screening of National Geographic’s Before the Flood featuring environmental activist and U.N. Messenger of Peace, Leonardo DiCaprio
Spoke with our panel of local and national experts from NASA Langley, Union of Concerned Scientists, Southern Environmental Law Center, and LEAP
Met local organizations that offer climate solutions

Before the Flood’s message is simple – climate change is real and the impacts are devastating, but there are actions that each of us can take in our homes, workplaces, and daily lives right now that will fight climate change and advance smart, clean energy solutions. This message is what Charlottesville’s Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) shared with our guests at this special event. This event was more than a movie. It’s a chance for individuals to have an impact on climate change.

About the Movie

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Fisher Stevens, Before the Flood presents a riveting account of the dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change, as well as the actions we as individuals and as a society can take to prevent catastrophic disruption of life on our planet.

The film follows Academy Award-winning actor, environmental activist and U.N. Messenger of Peace, Leonardo DiCaprio as he travels to five continents and the Arctic speaking to scientists, world leaders, activists and local residents to gain a deeper understanding of this complex issue and investigate concrete solutions to the most pressing environmental challenge of our time.
