Take Advantage of Free Home Energy Reviews

Free Energy Efficiency Services on Tap for Charlottesville Area Homeowners in August and September

LEAP is pleased to welcome 12 members from AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (“AmeriCorps”) to the Charlottesville community in August and September. Out of more than 40 applicants in the Southern Region, LEAP was one of only seven selected to host a team this term. They will be based out of LEAP’s offices at ecoREMOD: The Energy House (608 Ridge Street) and housed at Camp Holiday Trails. 

The AmeriCorps NCCC mission is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based service projects. Working together with LEAP, they will engage in a door-to-door and face-to-face campaign in Charlottesville that includes: knocking on doors to talk with us about ways to improve the health and comfort of our homes and save money on our utility bills; offering to conduct free home energy reviews and help you install energy efficient light bulbs and weatherstripping; and hosting “green and healthy homes” events. 

“I hope you’ll join me in welcoming LEAP’s AmeriCorps NCCC team to Charlottesville,” said Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris. “Keep your eyes open for them on the streets of your neighborhood – look for their signature gray shirt and cargo/khaki pants uniforms – and find an opportunity to take advantage of their free services for your home and our community.”

What is involved with a home energy review? 

These will be conducted by members of our AmeriCorps team who have received training from and will be overseen by LEAP’s home energy experts. The reviews involve 2-3 AmeriCorps members spending about an hour in your house asking you some questions about energy use and walking around to check out the basics (attics, crawl space, insulation levels, appliances, air leaks). They will provide you with their initial findings as well as email you a more extensive report with recommendations. 

How do I get a free home energy review? 

Fill out this form and return it to LEAP via email at info@leap-va.org or fax 434.326.5375. We will be in touch with you to set up an appointment while they are still available. Home energy reviews are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays 11am-6pm and Saturdays through September 24th.
